Before British Columbia became a province there was an annexation movement here that wrote to the USA to try to get them to annex British Columbia, but it obviously didn't work.

Quebec is older than the vast majority of cities in north America. Of course it doesn't compare to Europe in any meaningful way as far as age. But we made a real effort to put the history in the forefront. With education and a good look back. It does come with tourist traps and bullshit. But still.. I'm a Montréaler.. and I am very proud of Québec city's heritage.. even though I am conditioned to hate it.. 😂😂😂

Antwerp had a peacetime discharge capability of 80,000 to 100,000 tons of cargo per day. Less than half of this in wartime. Each Division required about 50 tons of material per day to stay operational and there were only shallow water ports in use. Even Eisenhower was very slow in accepting this necessity of getting Antwerp up and running..

Hafford is about a 4 hour drive from where I live so not far. I live in a small town of about 900 people, but we are close to Yorkton, a small city of about 16,000, so as long as you have a vehicle or a computer there are plenty of work opportunities. We live about 20 minutes away from Yorkton. Typical small towns are exactly how they said: there's usually a school, a restaurant, a bar, a senior's center and most importantly which she left out: A SKATING RINK!! Some small towns even have a curling rink AND a skating rink. There's also aloooottt of old people just like they said. I'd say the majority of people living in my town are elderly, although over the years I've now seen more younger families move in which is nice. We also have a legion and a town hall and we put on a rememberance day service every year for our veterans. We also have a town office and a library, a town park, and a local auction house.

Vastly understates the hostility to the US at the time. It very much was the American threat that caused the Canadian colonies to get their act together and unite in the one thing they all agreed on: not becoming American. Annexation was never even a remote possibility. What about a modern notion to annex? Well, over time Canada developed something that has granted us permanent immunity. We would all vote Democrat. So the Republicans will never have us. Rendering us quite safe. Tucker Carlson notwithstanding.

Been to 7/10 of those places. Hoping to make it to Newfoundland one day. Been to Nova Scotia a few times but not Cape Breton. Again , hoping to visit one day. Golden in British Columbia? Might have driven thru when I was a kid but not sure. When I was in the military I actually slept overnight at the Citadelle . That was pretty cool. Definitely not like any other military base, that's for sure, LOL As mentioned, Canada is a huge country but you would be surprised how many Canadians have visited these places.

6:30 Honestly.. no, by. It seems like the only people who have any problem with the word "Newfie" are people who leave newfoundland. I've spent 90% of my life here, and newfoundlander is just wrong. Nobody says Newfoundlander unless they moved away for 10 years. Newfie is what rolls off the tongue. It sounds as unnatural as a commercial I heard that said "Us newfoundlanders and labradorians..." when your either from labrador or newfoundland. You wouldn't say both. The only people I've heard get offended by newfie are like 50+ years old. Just because people from the mainland called them newfies in a derisive way doesn't mean anything to us back here. We are newfies. It is what it is. I'm sure there are "newfie jokes" that make fun of it, but sure we've had those same jokes for years now, our grandparents just replace newfie with random minority lol

I would leave. My family fought the Americans in the 1776 insurrection. We fought them in 1812. If they had tried annexation of Canada, I am sure my family would have fought them then as well. A story passed down in my family talks about Americans as evil. During the 1776 insurrection, an event happened where a woman was burnt at the stake, and her children tied to a barrel of gun powder and detonated. Members of my family helped with the aftermath. The story was so repugnant it has been recorded and told over and over. The woman was the child of a US general. She and her husband chose to side with the Britsh. The dad did not like this and chose to terminate that whole family. The husband only survived because he was fighting for the British and not home. This story has been passed down so no one in the family would let their guard down when it came to Americans. This event by the by is documented, and the reports by the witnesses and townspeople are recorded at the Canada War Museum. Side note, my father cut my sister out of his life when she moved to the US. They never spoke for 22 years before he died. The story and its cautionary tale hold huge sway in my family. Besides all this, we are monarchist and support our crown and country.

As most others have said, after the American Revolution, most of the loyalists actually moved north to remain under the King. If anything today, Canadians struggle with our own cultural identity because of the overwhelming American influence in arts, entertainment, literature, media and politics. While we may not be sure of exactly who we are but all of us are sure the one thing... we are not Americans!
